What is it? Have you experienced it?

Think of it as an initiation, taking you from one phase of life into another - like a transition. You may have several of these in one lifetime.

It feels like the external world rejects you

You might witness things collapsing, breaking apart, changing and a general shifting of what once felt unbreakable. What is usually happening here is a clearing, making way for a deeper and life altering meaning to take its place. It won’t make sense at the time. It will feel like it’s negative or like an energy is ‘working against you’ but when you have time to reflect, the truth behind the ‘why’ usually reveals itself.

When you ask the bigger questions your thirst can no longer be quenched by the mundane and everyday. Surface level conversations will bore you. Ego-driven dramas and situationships will bore you. And you realise, you are a part of something far greater than you could have of imagined.

Would you prefer a harder truth or a sweeter lie?

We may assume that when we first embark on the spiritual journey, it’s all abut positivity and higher vibes. What we don’t anticipate is, that in order to see what is true, we have to release all that is illusionary and sometimes that means letting go of things that are hard to let go of and facing challenges that we didn’t anticipate. When you start to connect to your inner wisdom, everything else that doesn’t carry truth resonance has to go.

5 signs you are experiencing a dark night of the soul:

  1. Life slows down - you may experience a loss or come to a standstill. This is the first part where the invite is to look within.

  2. Darkness descends - you can feel depressed, fearful, negative, judgemental and be running unhelpful stories about yourself and others. These feelings are brought to the surface for closer examination, so that you can bring awareness and acknowledgement into the equation.

  3. Concepts and beliefs start to crack - you start to look at the world differently, see through the cracks and the lies. Suddenly you start to notice a pattern and your awareness increases as your consciousness expands. Everything you once believed is now coming into question.

  4. Meaningless - things don’t hold meaning anymore, what used to interest you no longer does. The quest for purpose starts to become more of a priority.

  5. Heaviness - there can absolutely be a ‘why me’ phase when it comes to the dark night of the soul. What am I doing wrong, what is wrong with me, self-blame can feature quite heavily.
