From comfort to courage!

Fear comes in many guises! Here are a few you might be familiar with!

  • FEAR of what might happen

  • FEAR of what you don’t want to happen

  • FEAR of not being ready

  • FEAR of it not being the right time

  • FEAR of trusting yourself

  • FEAR of change

  • FEAR of the unknown

  • FEAR of rejection

  • FEAR of successs

It can be tricky sometimes to distinguish between genuine fear, that is serving a purpose to keep you safe and on track VS fears that hold you back and keep you contained. It can also be helpful to really understand how fear operates through you - it can be a subjective experience. For some people, fear can be a little bit of a shapeshifter, so it might be hard to determine a theme, for others, fear might be experienced as anxiety or procrastination.

We’ve all heard of the saying ‘face your fears’ but have you heard of the saying ‘face your comfort’?

Ok so first of all, let’s look at what to do if you are wanting to face your fears.

  1. Feel into it with presence, is this a REAL fear, a warning, gut instinct that is alerting you to something, OR is it a fear that is pushing you out of your comfort zone.

  2. If it is a genuine fear, then act on it, respond accordingly. If you feel it’s more of a subjective fear, firstly try to name it. By naming it, you can start to tame it.

  3. Once you’ve named it, you can begin to make it more tangible, for example you could characterise it, draw it out, journal, but essentially express it, in it’s rawest form.

  4. Now you can thank it for it’s concern/message and at this point try to real-eyes the fear does not rule or govern you.

  5. Take the action with courage - when you take action in the presence of fear, you start to dilute its power of you.

How to face your comfort

Comfort can hold you back from pursuing goals, fulfilling dreams and living up to your potential. Your belief system plays a BIG role in this.

“When we choose courage over comfort, it’s not about what you achieve, it’s about who you become in the process.”

Quote by Margie Warrell.

Courage is the enotion and bravery is the action that comes from having the courage to overcome fear. Courage isn’t a personality type, it’s a skill - we can all learn it. So ask yourself - is the short-term payoff you get from sticking with the status quo, worth the long-term price tag?

The Learning Zone!

This is where you can challenge yourself without feeling overwhelmed or panicked. I call it the ‘magic zone’ because inside of that is a huge magical dusting of SELF-BELIEF. How do you know if you are inside the learning zone? You are…

  • learning new things

  • meeting new people

  • seeing new places

  • trying new experiences

  • it’s all about the small steps - anything that is beyond what you already know, is the learning zone.

“Finding your magic zone is feeling into the stretch beyond what is comfortable without falling into fear.”

Quote by Sally-Anne Marler.

In terms of looking more deeply into your beliefs, there are usually four different levels in which they can form from.

  1. core belief - this is formed in childhood and you’re more conscious of it

  2. Genetic belief - this is passed down the family line and can go back 6/7 generations

  3. Historic belief - this is beyond the family line and can come from ancesters and past/parallel lives

  4. Soul belief - these are deep seated beliefs held at soul level
